Privacy Policy
Effective: May 19, 2026 · Last modified: May 19, 2026
Credits.fm is a free, public music identifier search service operated by Notes Frequencies, Inc. ("Notes", "we", "us"). This policy explains what information we collect when you use Credits.fm and how we use it.
Credits.fm does not require an account to use. You do not need to register, log in, or provide any personal information to search for ISRCs, ISWCs, IPIs, ISNIs, or UPCs.
Information we collect
Server logs and IP addresses
Like any web service, our hosting infrastructure automatically records standard HTTP request logs — including your IP address, the URL requested, and a timestamp. We retain these logs for abuse prevention and rate limiting. We do not sell or share this data with third parties beyond our hosting provider (Render).
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how Credits.fm is used in aggregate — which searches are common, which pages are visited, and similar traffic patterns. GA4 collects anonymized usage data via cookies. You can opt out using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
API keys
Developers who request elevated API access receive an API key. We store this key and associate it with the email address provided at the time of the request. We use it solely to authenticate requests and enforce rate limits.
Cookies
We set analytics cookies (Google Analytics) and basic session cookies. We do not use advertising or third-party targeting cookies. You can disable cookies in your browser settings; the search functionality of Credits.fm will continue to work without them.
How we use this information
- To serve search results and API responses
- To detect and prevent abuse, scraping, and denial-of-service attacks
- To enforce API rate limits for developers
- To understand aggregate usage patterns and improve the service
We do not sell personal information. We do not use your data for advertising.
Third-party service providers
We share data with the following service providers only to the extent necessary to operate Credits.fm:
- Supabase — database hosting for the identifier index
- Render — web hosting and cron infrastructure
- Google Analytics — anonymized usage analytics
Published identifier data
The music identifier data Credits.fm publishes — ISRCs, ISWCs, IPIs, ISNIs, UPCs, songwriter names, and related metadata — is licensed under CC-BY 4.0. This dataset contains no personal contact information, financial data, or private identifiers. Songwriter and publisher names appear in their professional capacity as rights holders — the same way they appear in public royalty registries maintained by the MLC, CISAC, and ISNI.org.
Children
Credits.fm is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your rights
You may request deletion of your API key or any server logs associated with your IP address by emailing privacy@notes.fm. Depending on your jurisdiction (including California under CCPA, and the EU/UK under GDPR), you may also have rights to access or correct information we hold about you.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last modified" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of Credits.fm after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
